With a total score of 188.25 points, Eileen Gu earned her first Olympic gold medal in the Women’s Big Air freestyle skiing event.

Eileen stomped her first-ever left side double cork 1620 trick on her third run of the big air final, needing a big trick to win gold.

In an interview with NBC Los Angeles, Eileen said, “I was thinking, ‘Should I improve on my previous [medal] and go for the silver or should I whip out this random trick I’d never done before and go for gold? Even if I didn’t land it, I felt it would send a message out to the world and hopefully encourage more girls to break their own boundaries.”

Her bold decision and techniques took her from third place to first and securing a gold medal.

This month, Eileen will compete in two more events: the women’s slopestyle and the halfpipe.

Our staff is proud of her and wishes her the best of luck. We look forward to cheering her on as she competes in her next events!
