Every August, a new fellow joins our practice for advanced training in the shoulder and elbow. They receive one-on-one mentorship from our upper extremity specialists, especially Dr. James Kelly and Dr. Mark Schrumpf. The past year we have had the honor of working with Dr. John Ryan Taylor.
Dr. Taylor attended medical school at the University of Utah, and finished his internship and residency at the University of California, Davis Medical Center. Prior to this fellowship, Dr. Taylor completed a sports medicine fellowship with Southern California Orthopedic Institute, Sports Medicine – the same fellowship Dr. Belzer and Dr. Chan completed. He became specialized in treating knees, shoulders, wrists, elbows, feet, and ankles, with special emphasis on arthroscopic surgery, ligament reconstruction, and reconstructive shoulder and knee surgery.
This past year, Dr. Taylor has had the opportunity to work with many of the Cal Pac Ortho doctors, but spent most of his time in the operating room with Dr. Kelly and Dr. Schrumpf. During this fellowship, Dr. Taylor has become an expert in arthroscopic repair/reconstruction of shoulders and elbows, as well as total shoulder replacement, both anatomic and reversed.
Dr. Taylor will be returning to Utah to work at Revere Health, specializing in sports medicine and elbow and shoulder surgery. He also plans on working with athletes and teams of all levels. We will miss having Dr. Taylor around, but wish him and his family the best of luck in their next adventure!
